Welcome to the USA and Canada

This is a small change of plans - no Ecuador (some other time) but visiting Floyd & Beverly Miles in Florida, visiting Chicago and Carl & Neil in Ottowa & Montreal (and yes, IŽll -probably- go home afterwards). Like the typical US photos?

Quebec, wednesday february 7th

While flying into Quebec from Chicago I could see the frozen over St Laurence river below me. Only an icebreaker could get through that. That airport was white - a 24 hour snowstorm was about to start. That was my welcome to Canada. It felt ok though, the snow seems to suit Quebec well.

After having had to speak spanish, then portugeese and english, it`s now back to speaking french again. I can`t quit manage the funny accent they use here though. Quebec it a truely beautifull city at the shores of the St Laurence river. It`s actuelly the only north american city which still preserves its colonial walls and colonial town. I got in right during the winter carnaval so loads of things going on.

Tomorrow I`m off to Ottawa, to see Neil and Carl (whom I met in New Zealand). Should be good!

Visiting the Miles family in Fort Myers, Florida

After 10 years I finally got to see Floyd and Beverly Miles again. I lived one year with them up north in Clarkston, Michigan in 1987-1988. It was a very warm welcome. We cought up on all the lost time by lots of talking. Much of the talking was done during our great dinners to which Floyd & Beverly invited me. The day out on Floyds boat was an unforgettable one. Thank you very much - I hope to see you again soon!

Chicago & South Beach, Miami

Before going to the Miles family I got to spent a day in Miami. Great city (hmm, I didn`t even have to switch to the english language - I could keep in speaking spanish). I loved the Art Deco on Miami`s South Beach. I have to come back for a more extensive look.
After Florida I was off to cold Chicago. American Airlines decided to send my luggage to Birmingham, Enland though and it didn`t show up untill I got back to the airport to leave for Quebec (thanx AA). Beautifull city though, Chicago. On saturday Jeb (UK), Graham (Scotland) & me went to Legends - Buddy Guy`s Blues bar. Great music, great evening out (and a bit of a quiet day after..). Well - that was just about my last time writing on this website. It`s almost finished; it`s almost done! Cheers, Floris

Amsterdam, 19 februari 2001

A short last note at the end of the trip. As said before, it has been great, it has been wonderfull! When arriving at Schiphol, Amsterdam Airport last week I found my mom & dad, brother and sister waiting for me with flowers and balloons. A great homecoming. Yeah sure, it will be getting used to. However, I had a great time and simply intent to continue this while back. Friday we'll go skiing for a bit, after which I will go back to Melbourne for a couple of days to watch the Australian Grand Prix (Qantas owed me another flight, so might as well use it!)

Cheers !

Never look back unless you can Smile, Never look forward unless you can Dream.

Thanks Eddie.
